Data Anaylsis on Order Information

I've pulled data out of a SQL database and would like to do some basic data analysis, but am struggling with the data analysis. My spreadsheet includes several columns:
OrderNumber Sponsor CustomerID Order_Date Item_Number Sale Price Coupon Net Zero_Net$

The Net column is actually the Net Sales Dollar for the line item and the Zero_Net$ is just a column I added that has a 1 in it if the Net Sale amount is $0. The spreadsheet has 5,122 line items. 2135 unique customers. I want to condense the information so that I can do some analysis by account. I want to summarize the spreadsheet so that for each customer so that I have the unique # of orders placed, the total line items ordered, the total Net $, and the total number of $0 priced line items ( which should be a total of Zero_Net$ column) that they have ordered

Once I have this I would like to look at a number of things: how many customers have ordered more than one time (% of total that have), how does this look

After that I would like to go back on annual basis and see how many customers order multiple time in the same year (what the % of total unique customers for that year do). Order data is from 3/19/2009 through today so I would look at years for 2009, 2010 and 2011

I've been spinning my wheels trying to use the subtotal functions and can't seem to figure out how to get the data to work right
