Table unable to sort referenced data

I'm trying to make a table in excel that organizes referenced data, but whenever I attempt to organize the referenced data, it just, well, doesn't. I imagine it's because the cell is always equal to that of the cell it's referencing. How can I get around this and make it so that it will organize the cells the way I want it to (in this case, chronological order)?

You'll probably get help if you upload a workbook with your problems. A picture does nothing for the members here and you won't get many (if any) relevant responses trying to get help via that route.
