Creating an index amongst different characters and spacing

    Hello,

Everyday I receive this pick sheet and everyday there is different product and quantities. It's roughly 20-30 pages long and isn't organized alphabetically or numerically. So in order to find info about a particular product, one has to flip 20-30 pages.

Is it possible to open the text document in excel and write a code where it creates an index alphabetically? Then could I open the text document in excel and have the code saved so I could do this eveytime?

I've attached the pick sheet and an example of what I'm looking for. We use office 2007

    pick sheet.txt
    index example.txt

    Thanks

    Hi,

Yes it's possible but you'll need to explain where the (presumably Page numbers) Pg. 1, Pg. 6 etc. come from. They don't exist in your picksheet.txt file.

    Re your PM.
Please note that we generally ask for all follow ups to be in the forum since others with similar requirements may be following the thread.

Neither the page numbers nor dates are included in the Pick List .txt file, so I'm not clear as to what you are referring when you say 'when the picks are printed off'. Printed off what? Certainly not the original pick .txt file you supplied.

    Regards

Yes, there are no page numbers listed in the pick sheet.txt file. But in printing options you can select to display page numbers, date, time to show on the hard copy.

When you open the pick sheet.txt file in excel, and select page break, it will show which item is on which page. My pages break down at line 50.
