I am using an addin for a data collection program at work which is installed in C:\program files (x86)\program\excel addin. The computer is Windows 7 64 bit. On a different computer, I have the same addin installed, but since the machine is XP, it is installed in c:\program files\program\excel addin.

If I make a file with the addin on one computer then open it in the other, all functions linked to the addin show #NAME and the formula shows a path to the addin. Changing the link location does not seem to do anything.

The only work around I have found is to make a C:\program files\program\excel addin folder on the Win 7 machine so that the file locations are the exact same.

Why does the link location matter as long as the addin is installed ok on both machines? In a work environment with a mix of Win XP and Win 7 machines, this leads to a lot of issues. Is there a better work around? Note that the addin is installed in that location by default with the programs installation program.

Thanks
