    Advanced Filtering

    Hi Guys,

I want to be able to use an advanced filter to sort out specific criteria of exchange rates. I have the rates in a spreadsheet but I am not sure how to begin this process. From what I have read, I think I need to set up criteria but really I have no idea how to do this. Can someone give me an idea of where to start? The criteria that I would like to be able to sort would be date (years) and just compare specific exchange rates which would be specified through activeX controls. I have attached a file of the data I have.

    Update:
Is it possible to use advanced filtering to move a specific range in excel to another worksheet. The range can change, since the information is being pulled from the web but it is always pulled in the same way so based on the cells around the desired range I think this can be done but I'm not sure how to do it. I have uploaded the new workbook and the range that I would like to copy is range("a28", "j31") into the other sheet under the correct column headings. But this range is only for this update, I would like to have a macro that can by dynamic with the changing range.

    Thanks guys

Jimmy, this isn't exactly clear. Are you stating that you would like to move the entire range encompassing A28 over and down through J31, or each of those two cells specifically?

What is special about this particular range choice? Will it change over time? Is it based on criterion being developed outside of the workbook? Based upon the data you provided in the sample workbook, it appears random (a non-month ending or beginning date occurring in the middle of the data set in 1994).

A little clarification and I think we can get you going...
Perhaps it was the Noid who should have avoided me...
If you are satisfied with my solution click the small star icon on the left. Thanks
    1. Make a copy of your workbook and run the following code on your copy (just in case)
    2. With excel open, press ALT+F11 to open the Visual Basic Editor (VBE). From the "Insert" menu, select "Module".
    3. Paste the code from above into the empty white space. Close the VBE.
    4. From the developer tab, choose "Macros", select the Sub Name, and click "Run".

    Re: Advanced Filtering

    Hi AlvaroSiza

Thanks for helping. So I uploaded a new attachment and if you look in "sheet 2" of it, the range of A28:j31 contains the new exchange rates that are pulled from the IMF website. (this is done through a webquery). I would like to copy this info out and place it with the rest of the data on "sheet 1". I would like to not have to update the webquery each time so I figured the best way to see all the data would be an advanced filter that would copy over the new data pulled from the web query. So to answer you question, this range will change everytime new data is pulled in.

    Thanks again
