Countifs

Hey Guys,
i know there is a few threads on this one but no matter how many times i try i just cant get it.

I created a great spreadsheet in Excel 2007. but i need it to be compatible with 2003. Countifs as you know doesnt work in 2003.

there are 2 columns that i need to filter to count.

at the moment i use
=COUNTIFS(WORKSHEET!$G:$G,REPORTS!K$2,WORKSHEET!$D:$D,REPORTS!$J3)

worksheet has the data on it, reports has the reports.
Worksheet column G has the date in it. the date is in the format MMM, YY.
Worksheet colum D has the component in it. Ie Torque converter

i need to count how many “Torque Converters” there are in May 2012.

The answer is 0 to your question. But the formula will look like this =SUM(($D$3:$D$8=D4)*($G$3:$G$8=G4)) [Enter with Ctrl + Shift + Enter]

The formula you have provided doesn't seem to match your sample workbook, at least as far as I can see.
I think this thread would benefit from a larger sample of your workbook, there doesn't seem to be enough matches between the sheets to clearly see your problem.
