Creating a cricket scorebook,,excel help in functions and coding

    Hi all,

I am making a excel cricket scorebook. I need your help in making this possible, Has anyone done this before?

I need to know how i can log what has been recoreded in a cell. eg

if cell A1 has had the scores being input in it before such as 4 then it was changed to 2 then 0 then 3...is there a way to log what has been verses what it was changed to?

Also if i add a value in cell A1 the batsman in C2 and C3 will have their scores go up. eg

if i had 4 into A1 then batsman in C2 will hav 4 added to its value; then i add 1 to A1 then C2 will go to value of 5, Then i had 2 to A1 then this time the value will go to C3 as the batsman has changed. The after the 6th entry the batsman will swtich again.

Any suggestions how to start this off?

Hi and welcome to the forum from the home of cricket -

It's a difficult task you've set yourself and the first question is how will your Excel know when the batsmen have changed if all you are doing is entering the ball by ball scores in one cell? I know that's basically what your saying but there's much much more to it. I'd be inclined to download a free one. A Google search of cricket scorebook free download found what appears to be a good one.

I just hope it can give the scores right. i.e. 250 for 6 rather than 6 for 250 !!

    Anyone for tennis?

    Hi Russell,

    Thanks for the response,
I was hoping there is somesort of VBA,coding or formula that can Loop the formula after 6 entries (balls) to the next batsman and it will log the score against the batsman after each entry and at every odd run the next batsman will recieve the scores.
Can you provide the link to the Good scorebook you found maybe i can gather a few ideas from there.

Actually, I followed the link and it starts to take you down what could be a murky path so I opted not to follow it myself and would never recommend anything that was remotely dodgy. It may be OK but I'd rather not take the risk myself. However here's the link:

    http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/G...Scorebook.html

It's quite a project. How many overs can you guarantee to be exactly six balls? Wides and no balls (planned or inadvertant!) obviously change that. There are so many variables and that's what makes it such an enjoyable game. Well that, and the fact that the bar opens earlier in the cricket pavilion!

You ask, "Has it been done before?" and the answer seems to be a big NO. I've trawled the internet for a while and whilst there are lots of templates for manual entry there's not much in the way of Excel workbooks.

I think if you want to have a go you need to design the look of your workbook (scorebook) first so that you have all possible entries in place and then work out how the scores are going to be entered. Asking the specific question in another thread on the lines of your last post would be the next step as I see it after your first design stage.

    Good luck.
