Macro to keep count of click of button on protected worksheet

This macro works when the sheet is unprotected, but I get an error once I protect the sheet and I have to protect the sheet. Can someone help with this?

This is what I have attached to a button,

Why does F2 have to be locked?
Why does the click count have to be saved in DATA sheet?

    Hi,

Unlock the cell (F2) before protecting the sheet (FormatCells>Protection Tab, deselect Locked).

F2 is a tracking number that increases with the number of times the macro is run, kinda like a version tracker

This seems to work only if the time between selections is not too fast.
