    reformatting a pivot table report

    hi,

in order to make a pivot table more appealing to users I want to merge the blank cells that appear below each category with the the first cell
better look at the attachment for what I want to do...

what I want to do is already possible in excel 2007, but I am still working in excel 2003

since it's quite standard my question is if anybody had done something similar

also I am a bit puzzled that border properties do not seem to respond to what is displayed.
all borders are marked as continuous, but those invisible have colorindex = -4142...

    regards!
