dateformats and pivottable

We have a series of pivottables which are updated daily.
We use vba to show/hide items in the pivotfields.

The dates in the pivot source are numbers (24/07/2012 = 41113).
The variable in vba is declared as date.
This works fine in excell 2003. but since the upgrade to 2007 this stopped working.
