Can the message 'FileName.xlsm' is read-only. To save a copy, click OK, .. be suppressed ?

    Hi,

Users are placed in a read-only file and I wish the following message to be suppressed, when the Users inadvertently select the SAVE icon (I know they shoudn't do it ! ) :

'FileName.xlsm' is read-only. To save a copy, click OK, then give the workbook a new name
in the Save As dialog box.

I have tried disabling alerts with no success.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

    Regards - Kevin

    Hi Kevin

    Welcome to the forum.

You cannot disable this (afaik). The box pops up before the BeforeSave macro fires, so you can't interrupt it. Some options:
    1. Can you have the file unprotected, but interrupt the save using BeforeSave (Using Cancel=True)? People can mess with it in the file system.
    2. You could disable the Save button on the ribbon (but this wouldn't prevent File, Save, nor CTRL-S). Remember to re-activate it when you de-select the workbook.
    3. Assign CTRL-S to an empty macro to disable CTRL-S

That's about all I can think of. Hope some of the other bright sparks around here can help!

    Cheers, Rob.

    Hi Rob,

So it appears that this message cannot be suppressed, even when "DisplayAlerts=False" is in operation prior to
    hitting the SAVE icon.

I have a "CANCEL=TRUE", which prevents any further save actions following this message - so I am sticking with this code.

Many thanks for your time and advice Rob.

    Regards - Kevin
