Change workbook from readonly to compatiblity mode while in workbook

    Dear Experts,

I always come across the problem where ive done loads of work on a workbook and when it comes round to saving it, i find out its read only. Is there any way i can run a macro so that the workbook changes from readonly to compatiblity mode or a way of basically runing a macro which does the process i have to do manually (i.e. saving the workbook as a copy, deleting the orignal, renaming the saved version) automatically.

    Help would be great thanks.

    Hi, Rasik,

did you place the code into the workbook itself? I tested it from within the workbook opened as read-only, and it worked fine in Excl2010 under WinServer2003.

    Ciao,
    Holger

    Dear Holger,

I have saved it as a personal macro... in the personal workbook is this the problem? I usually get this problem often so wanted to to work with any spreadsheet (that was readonly):

I have attached the picture below.

    Hi, Rasik ,

the code should work from any other workbook or addin as well but only if you alone do have the rights to do so. The message may indicate that some other user has opened the workbook and may edit it. This user may change the fileaccess. Maybe you try and find out if the workbook is free for opening before doing so.

    Ciao,
    Holger
