Chart updates in excel 2007 but not in 2003 - "Unable to Set Name property of series class

    Hi all,

I am getting this issue everytime i run the code in excel 2003. when working in 2007, it works absolutely fine, but due to most of the people using excel 2003 in my organisation, i am required to make it 2003 compatible. i have been beating myself with this for the last 2 days, and numerous google searches and tips, but to no use.

what i am trying to do is when a value is selected from a combobox on my sheet "Overall Summary", all the charts get updated. this works in 2007, as already mentioned, but when using excel 2003, i keep getting "Runtime Error 1004 - Unable to set the Name property of the Series class" at and beyond the bolded point within the code below. if i put that as a comment, then the next same error comes on the next line. I have got 5 charts on the worksheet, and all seem to be working fine apart from chart5.

Any help will be useful. Thanks in advance.

    JP,

The data series disappear from the chart when i select either "Price" or "All" from the combobox. as long as other values are selected, it works fine. But this applies only to Excel 2003, in 2007, irrespective of the combobox's value, chart is updated as expected. but in 2003, if either 'Price/All' is selected, then the macro starts crashing after that and I have to manually go and update the chart values, however, the Source Data values are there.

the section you indicated is in error is not the part that should respond if you select price or all so I am a bit confused as to the nature of your problem?

Price and All are just 2 exceptions to the case, but if any other value is selected, after either Price or All are selected, the code does not work until I manually define the chart values and it will work until again either All or Price is selected. I would like to remove the need of manually defining the chart values each time a user selects Price or All and then selects another value. I think it is more to do with the different ways Excel 2003 and 2007 are updating the chart, but so far I am unable to find a workaround to this issue.

    Hope this helps.

oh I see-it's the deleting of the names that causes the problem in 2003. why do you assign the series to named ranges and then delete those names?

The reason i do it that way is because there are about 7 sheets with similar headings and columns, but rows differ slightly. Each value in the comobobox corresponds to a particular sheet and then the charts are updated from the respective sheets. Also, the data is updated every month, so the named ranges keep it dynamic for each sheet.

    but why delete the names?

I suspect-without the workbook I have to guess-that you would need to change the chart type to a column chart or area chart then update the values and then set it back to a line chart
