I want a cell to retain its formula when the cell content is cleared... is this possible?
Not really. You can have a formula that displays an emtpy cell if a certain criteria is met or if it is error.
If you make a macro that fills out the cells for you, you can then delete the values with no problems. Making a macro is usually more complicated and more work than a formula.
