Smile Multiple .wav files quick playing?

Hi all, thanks for this wonderful forum! I have spent some time lurking here and thought it was time to post.

I am part of an independent music distro label, and music is my forte, not spreadsheets! However I have gotten quite involved to create the best information system I can.
My main need is to create compilations very quickly, from about 8,000 songs. The nature of the industry is now that music does not sell much, so the creativity put into each compilation which could increase sales is paramount.

one way I can do this, is to stop making compilations by staring at spreadsheets, and guessing what the songs I am looking at will sound like.
If I can instead have a small play button in a column for each track, which opens VLC media player or something simple, I can quickly get a real feel for the comp I am creating rather than using guesswork.

This is an important service to the music industry, as these are 're-compiles.' Unless you have a giant marketing machine behind your music, it takes minutes to go from page one of new releases to page 10. there are just so many releases. One way we keep our artists in the view of the buyers is by re compiling their music in as many new creative ways we can think of giving the songs new chances to be noticed. It currently takes me a whole day to do 5 comps. This addition will enable me to at least twice as many per day.

I have all the songs sorted well, and indexed well. Their file names are already in the spreadsheet, and it would be easy for me to get their location paths into the spreadsheet as well.
The spreadsheets are sorted by genre. Some Genres have 3000 rows. Some have 50. I understand embedding 3000 songs in a spreadsheet is going to be ridiculous is there another way?

Thanks all for your time in reading this.

    Hi -

Sure, here is the sample file. Column A being the Title, Column B is the full path of the wav files

All you need to do is to click the title of the songs in Column A and it will play for you.

You can click as fast as you can and it will play for you.

That's pretty amazing! Now I have to figure out how to implement that in my current spreadsheet. I look into it!

Hmm actually is there a way to search around in the song? I actually need to be able to hear chunks in the middle to really determine the song, ie skip forward in 30 second intervals, skip back in 15 second intervals

    again, thanks so much!

thanks, searching for sites I can learn about this on.

Can I ask, what player is this using? I have found threads on other forums which talk about hyperlinking the file location, but they say window media player or other default player will pop up. On yours, VLC which is my default, does not open. The music mysteriously plays!

Hmm I am struggling to find anything, it seems that the winmm.dll file cannot fast forward/rewind only has the capabilities described here http://vmd.myxomop.com/apires/ref/p/playsound.html

I am wondering if something like this might work?

Re: Multiple .wav files quick playing?

    Hi there,

I have a mp3 player on my website that may help as it could be easily adapted to play wav files instead. As it uses the windows media player it has all the functionality you seem to be looking for.

The template is normally AUD $0.50 but if you send me a PM with your email address I'll just send it to you.

    Kind regards,

    Robert

Hey Event, ive pasted in the code, do I stop it now by double clicking the title a second time?
Also, do you know if it is possible to fast forward? I can't find anything which suggest the winmm.dl file allows for this
