List of unique and duplicate names that correspond with dates

I have a worksheet that has multiple columns with names and dates. The columns are not consecutive so column a (name), column b (date); column e (name), column f (date) this pattern continues name, date skip 2 columns name date. The length and total amount of the columns varies.
What I need is a macro that will take the names from sheet1 and list the total occurrences of unique and duplicate names and what total occurrences of the name occur each month on sheet2.
A pivot table may work but I haven't figured that out. I would like something that can be updated automatically based off the changes in sheet1.
Example:

Name 12/01 12/02 12/3 total
AA 1 2 4 7
BB 3 1 1 5

Does your output mean that there was 1 appearance of AA for 12/02, 2 for 12/02 and 4 for 12/03?

Will a unique list of the names appear on the output sheet, or does that have to be generated from the data?

To your first question yes that is correct.
For the second question I have attached an example of what I need on Sheet2. Sheet1 is the data for sheet2, and I only showed 3 lines on sheet2 to give you an idea of what I need.
