Check if port open through firewall

I'm building a remote support feature into an app and have a pre-configured VNC client that gets run from a button with the following:

this works fine, however, if the port 5500 is not open then the connection will fail. Is there a way to test if this port is open with VBA?

Open a Command Prompt window, type in or copy/paste:

netstat -np TCP | find "5500"

What is displayed when port 5500 is open and when it is closed?

This command can be run from VBA using Windows Script Host and the output read to determine if the port is open or closed.
