help with excel 2000 6 way auto formatting

    [Color3][<10]General;[Color5][<20]General;[Green]General

Can anybody think of a way of using the above type of expression to colour text in a cell based on the contents which will be either gh or ij or kl.
I cannot convert gh to a numerical value and the above expression does not accept gh or "gh". Thanks for reading / trying.

(I have already formatted the first 3 conditions using the standard conditional formatting)
