Attempting to lock dates into a cell after they are populated

I am currently attempting to lock in dates after they are populated in a cell. I have a check box in cell B1, in the cell below I have the formula =IF(B1=TRUE,TODAY(),""). I want the box below to capture the date and not update the next day when I check the box in B1. Any suggestions?

A macro similar to this one would do it.

This assumes your formula listed is in C1 and you want the permanent date in cell B2. It would only update when you invoke the macro.
