    surveying site records made easy

I'll start of by explaining what I need using simple column and row references. If possible I would prefer the solution in both formula format and VBA, if possible please.

I start by first putting a value in B2 from there the next value will either be in C3 or D3. These values, B2 minus C3 or D3 with the answer placed in J3 if it is positive and K3 if negative!

The next value could be in B4 or C4 and so on this could end up as much as B100 or C100, from here the same calculation as above needs to take place.

So if there is a value in column B the sum would be - what is in either column C or what is in column D
or the value may be in column C which will mean column C - column D.

The values do change in column B and C regularly and is random.

Briefly the values are levels of an area of land that are recorded using levelling staff and eyesighting equipment generally used in surveying, the positive and negative values are the rise and fall of the area being measured.

Hope you can understand my attempts to logically explain my request. look forward to hearing from you soon. ta

Hi Trauts-Art, welcome to the forum. Please upload a sample workbook to explain your requirement better.

From your explanation, do you want to write formula in J Column? if(B3="",C3+D3,if(C3="",C3-D3))
