    Repair Unreadable Content: Removed Sorting

I have an xlsm file which all of a sudden started giving me an unreadable content error message when trying to open. It allows me to repair and then notifies me that it "Removed Records: Sorting from /xl/worksheets/sheet3.xml part." The error is indentified as error008040_01.xml. At first this error would occur sporadically when opening. Because it became more frequent, I went searching online for a way to fix it.

Some posts indicated that I needed to clear my sort criteria before closing. However, the thing that baffles me is that no sorting takes place in VBA or otherwise for Sheet 3. I do have one sheet, Sheet 1, which is sorted by macros frequently during use. But none of the other sheets are ever sorted and all rows always retain their original order. I did try adding a command to clear sort criteria before closing the file. I added this both in This Workbook and on the sheet VBA. That did not help.

Most of the posts related to this error related to a corrupted pivot table. However, I do not have any pivot tables in my file and in fact have never created one and know nothing about them.

Another solution I found was to cut and paste all of the sheets in my xlsm file to a new blank workbook, the theory being that the error was somewhere in the coding of the workbook and the sheets themselves were fine. I did try this also and initially thought that it had worked, as the first 2-3 times I opened the new file no error message came up. However, I then ran a particular macro and after that I have been getting the error message every time the file is opened, unlike before where it was just sporadic. I then began to wonder if it was the macro which caused this corruption. However, it could be just a coincidance that the error didn't occur the first 2-3 times I opened it after moving all the sheets, since the error had been occuring sporadically up until that point.

The macro in question is activated by my problem xlsm file. This macro opens two xlsx files. Within each opened xlsx file, it links to data in other closed Exel files are refreshed, some data is pasted into fields within these xlsx files and then the xlsx files are closed. The only interaction this macro has with Sheet 3 of my problem file is to hide visibility of the sheet at the beginning of the macro and restore the visibility of the sheet at the end of the macro. I would be happy to send this macro's code, as well as the VBA code for Sheet 3, to an individual upon request, if someone is interested in looking at the code. I am not convinced that this macro is in any way connected to my problem but the timing is interesting, as I also believe the error may have started occuring roughly around the same time as I created and began using this macro.

I would certainly appreciate any suggestions anyone can offer as to how to fix this problem.
