Easy Questions - How to reference a cell?

I'm new to VBA and am trying to learn. How do I reference another cell's value based on it's relative position to ActiveCell.

For example, the ActiveCell is C1. The cell A1 has a value. How do I reference it? Do I use something like RC[-2]?
