Saving re-useable template with new name and preserving original copy for others to use

Looking for help to figure out this "puzzle'. I have created a template (workbook) that will get used over and over - one for every customer my business serves. How can I save the template under one name (i.e. MonthlyReportTemplate) and each time open it save it under a name specific to a given customer, (i.e. Q3Y12 Customer # 1, Q3Y12 Customer #2 and so on). In other words, I need to preserve the integrity of the template so others can use it. The template is on a shared drive and others will have access to use it. I want to avoid someone opening the template, entering data and then saving it with a new name - effectively saving/renaming the original template, thus loosing the template. Thanks.

You need to save the workbook as a template.

    Hi,
Thanks for info. I saved it as a template. Now to part 2 of my question - is there a way to protect the integrity of the original template when someone enters data into it. I want user to be forced to save it under a different name - and still have template for next user. I saved it under new name and it overroad template. Ideas? Thanks.

Once you have saved the workbook as a template, you don't *open* it unless you want/need to edit it. You create a new document based on the template ... that is, you select New and choose your template from wherever you saved it. It will be created as "Book1" or whatever and, when you save it, it will ask you to name it.

As I say, the only time you choose to open the template is to edit it.
