Greyed out buttons in Excel 2011's Visual Basic Editor on Mac

Hi! I just started a VBA for Excel class and am having problems writing in Visual Basic Editor (VBE). I have enabled the 'Developer' tab and can open the VBE, however, nearly every button in VBE is greyed out. I cannot Insert-->Module or nearly anything else. I cannot even type in the box. If I click the 'Macro' button on the Developer tab to add a new Macro, I can type in the name and click 'Create' but then nothing happens and it is not saved (at least I think it's supposed to save it or something). Any help will be appreciated!!! I will try and reply anything you suggest. Thanks!

I am using Excel 2011 on a 2012 MacBook Pro.

I'm having this same issue. Did you or anyone else ever figure out the problem? I open the Visual Basic Editor (Excel 2011 on Mac) and the 3 icon buttons across the top are all greyed out. Not sure what I need to do to enable those buttons. Any help would be much appreciated!

I do not remember how I fixed it! I think I ended up using someone else's computer. Have you tried restarting your computer? Can't remember if that helped... But I did use it again. I may have been in the wrong window or something...Sorry! Good luck!

So now the challenge is how do I enable it? If I find an answer, I will be sure to post for the next person who runs into this same issue
