scanning barcodes to excel spreadsheet

Hi. I am interested in learning how to scan the barcodes for a number of products and having them automatically entered into an excel spreadsheet. I do not have a scanner at this time. I've seen some on ebay that are inexpensive but do not know what I should be looking for. I need something that will simply scan the barcode and enter the upc code into the spreadsheet. I only need the number - no description, value or anything else. Do the scanner come with everything I will need to transfer the data to excel? As you can see, I know nothing about this. Can anyone clue me in?

Get a scanner with USB connectivity and simply plug it and begin scanning.

Most of them will extract the data from the barcode, populate the cell and either shift down to the next cell or tab right, ready for the next scan. There is, typically for this type use, no special software required.

Buy from a reputable source that offers support and let them guide into the correct choice of scanner based on your application/needs. I suggest a dual scanner that will also read data matrix labels as well as barcodes.
