What's the best and easiest way to secure your VBA code/ project?

    Hi all,

I would love to know the forum's views on how best to secure project code. I'm not talking one macro or one function but a whole project. I've looked at compiling code into an .exe with a few free converters and they sort of do what I am hoping to but I'd love to know what you guys do in practice to prevent users and other people from accessing/copying/manipulating your code.

I do appreciate that you can protect and password protect both the workbook and the VBA but as most will tell you, this isn't adequate insurance. I've seen that add-ins are respected methods but I'm not sure that applies for a whole load of code, I'd love to be proven wrong

I look forward to reading your replies and methods,

    Limebaish

only security is to compile into an executable-exe or dll

why do you think add-ins don't apply to a lot of code??

if at first you don't succeed try doing it the way your wife told you to

    Hi JosephP,

Thank you for your reply. I have no experience with add-ins and if you have (likely) then perhaps you could point me in the right direction of creating one that encompasses a lot of code. I have found a lot of add-in directions online for creating a single custom function etc but the rest have been quite complicated.

I am also interested in any advice you have regarding compiling/ best converters as the one I have found is rather primitive for my liking.

    Kind regards,

    Limebaish

an add-in is no different to a workbook in terms of code location

I'd use visual studio if I needed to compile code but usually I don't bother-if a user wants to look at and mess with my code that's fine by me as long as they accept the consequences for breaking it ;-)

    Ah ok

I think I'll have a nice dig into how to make an Add-In then. I may just learn what I need to Thank you but if anyone else has any suggestions/advice/tips regarding converters then don't be shy!
