Creating a searchable "master" excell workbook based on multiple other workbooks

    Hello All -

I am some what new to creating more complicated excel workbooks and could greatly use some guidance and help!

I am looking to build simplied product traceability scheme. Meaning for each batch of product data will be entered into a new standard template workbook that will have 5 worksheets, each sheet represents a step in the process where certain ingredient lot number information will be entered. For a given year there could be as many as 1500 of these standard templates in one folder. The standard template is designed already, but what I'd really like to build is a "master" sheet where someone could go to and either enter a production date or a production code and the sheet would produce the file name(s) that correspond and if it could give a hyperlink to the file that would be even better. Not sure how best to do this. Would perfer it not be in Access. So any Macro or VBA work that could help accomplish this would be fantastic. Any help greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Creating a searchable "master" excell workbook based on multiple other workbooks

Should have asked a more specific question around this, sorry. Can someone help me with the following:

    * How can I set up a master sheet where an operator enters a date and presses a search button and a function/code will lookup and match the date to dates entered in multiple workbooks (all dates will be in the same cell for all workbooks) and then return the file name(s) that match? Then on the master sheet the person would enter a product code and search the returned workbooks for an exact match, if they wanted. Product code info in the workbooks would be in the same place for all.

Thank you for any help that can be offered.

    Michael
