Create adaptive alpha-numeric counter

Counter structure - XXXYYYYY (XXX - Alpha and YYYYY - Numeric)
Example : PLV00001, STP00004 etc.

Process:

1. User selects abbreviation PLV or STP
1. Look for highest counter value in each category such as PLV or STP in column A
2. Generate next counter in the series as selected by the user and put in next blank cell in column A

Need to use VBA and not excel function
