I'm not sure if you got all of your information in this post or not, but I am going to assume I know what your talking about.

1.) Bring up a blank worksheet.
    2.) Click on Developer Tab
If it's not visible click "Office Button", click "Excel Options", click "Popular"
click "Show Developer Tab in the Ribbon"
    3.) Click "Insert"
4.) In the pop up menu, click the bottom right button "more controls"
5.) Scroll through list and click "Microsoft Date and Time Picker Control"
    6.) Click "OK"
7.) Your mouse will turn into cross hair, just click and drag a box into the worksheet.
You should see todays date in the box.

** Now lets get it to work **

    8.) Deselect Design Mode
9.) In cell C10 type Date:
    10.) In E10 type formula =D10
    11.) Click on "Design Mode"
12.) Rt Click on the calendar control and select "Properties'"
13.) When you see the properties menu, look for " Linked Cell"
14.) and enter to the right of it D10 (if you get an error ignore it)
    15.) Close the "Properties" menu
    16.) Deselect Design Mode
17.) Now On the calendar control, click the down arrow button and change the date!
18.) You will see D10 change to the new date.
19.) Now just reposition the calendar control so that it nicely fits over cell D10. You may have to go back to Design mode and edit the size of the box, or edit the size of the cell. The idea is to position the calendar box over a cell D10, so it looks like the date is in the cell.

    Pretty cool!

Well, I am not sure if that is what you were looking for, but if not it certainly is nice to know how to use a pop up date.
