Help with Vlookup / Hlookup (or anythning else that will solve problem!)

I have some data as per the below spreadsheet (data changed). I need to be able to create an absence timline for each staff memeber as shown in the results I am looking for.

Can anyone please shed any light on how this could be achieved - i have tried vlookups etc.

Any help gratefully received

Staff Name Type of Leave Start Date End Date Raw Data - will be in this format but not necessarilyt sorted into any order
Staff 1 AL 01/05/2013 02/05/2013
Staff 2 AL 03/05/2013 04/05/2013
Staff 1 S 04/05/2013 16/05/2013
Staff 2 S 16/05/2013 18/05/2013
Staff 4 AL 15/05/2013 15/05/2013
