Retrieve cell color from another cell

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum! And I want to thanks in advance for any help anyone may give to me.

I work in a printer company, and I a am doing a spreadsheet that capture some information from an order service. One information is the colors used on the job.
Some job has Pantone colors, and all that I want, is to paint the background of an cell, taking the color from another cell, located in another worksheet that has all Pantone color, RGB values, and an cell painted with the RGB value on background.
I was looking for an function that can bring this information, but i believe this not exist.
Anyhow, I believe is possible to make some kind of auto activated macro that may use the RGB values from reference table to set a background color in a cell next to the cell that have the Pantone color number, but I do not know muth about VBA..
Can anyone help me to build this VBA, or any other way to get this cell color?

By the way, I know that is possible to use conditional formating to do this, but I realy don't want to make more them 1000 conditional formating formulas...

Thanks for the attention.

Do you have an example workbook you can attach? I don't really understand the problem statement.

Re: Retrieve cell color from another cell

Hi and welcome to the forum

You are correct in that there is no function or formula that will do what you want here. Colors (and fonts) are visual aids/cosmetics for people, they are not data, and as such, excel cannot "see" colors or fonts.

This IS possible with VBA, but that is not 1 of my strong points

I will move this thread to the VBA forum, Im sure some-one there will be able to give you what you need
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you

Re: Retrieve cell color from another cell

custom function will tell you the Font/color index of certain cell

http://datapigtechnologies.com/blog/...in-excel-2003/

have a seperate table with color index to color

do not know about pantones and how they work

this site would be more helpful for what you are after.
