How to get Macros to work in a protected workbook

Hello, I am very new to Excel and as a matter of fact I did not write the macros in question (which is why I am struggling). I need to protect a worksheet after it is filled out, but I need the macros to work so that when a checkbox is clicked the field turns green. The macros work just fine when the sheet is unprotected but I get an error message anytime the sheet is protected and it will not allow the field to turn green. Detailed instructions or advise would be very helpful!

If the protection is just to stop accidental changes being made, then you could use the following. However, as it shows tha password, it means that the security is very weak. Perhaps someone can suggest a way of getting round this?

You will need to (a) change the "password" to another word
(b) unprotect the sheet before running this.
