how to accurately pick dates using vba or other excel methods

hi everyone, I have a question in regards to dates.

In my current project that i am doing, i'm trying create an excel database that is used for analyzing incomes and expenses of financial operating statements. from the information that i have inputted from operating statements, i would like to be able to create a report where the data that i have inputted/acquired, will be presented in from the earliest operating statement to the most recent operating statement. for example the report would first show the data from let's say a 2009 operating statement of income and expenses, then a 2010 operating statement, and 2011 operating statement and etc. any suggestions?

Depending on layout and how the information is represented. Do you wish to have the dates broken down quarterly, monthly or even weekly ?

What I have attached is a rough example and its captures the month of the totals.

You were on the right track but unfortunately the offset function is going to upset the sumif formula cos the formula need an equal range to calculate.

Example: Take your workbook that you attached. The sumif formula will work but you'll have to go to cell G45 and enter 0 (zero) all the way to cell G64 then delete the formula that's in and below H65. Then you'll find that your formula will work.
