    issues with vlookup

    Hi All

In sheet 1 in column c "prod codes" are generated through a random button
The same "Prod codes" are already associated with "prod names" in details1.sheet

I have written a vlook up value to retrieve the prod name in the first sheet(try)
but it gives me an error "Not available" for all.

Not sure where i am going wrong. i have combined

iserror so that if any errors it can give some message
match so that it can give the prod name even if columns are inserted between the prodcode and prod.names in sheet2.

Please let me know if there is any mistake in my syntax. Also i wanted to know which is better to use a vlookup or a index+match
    in your opinions.

    Re: issues with vlookup

A quick question...Why do the Prod Codes on the Try worksheet begin with PC and the ones on the Details1 sheet start with only P?

With that said, if the Prod Code for Sep were P008 and you use this formula it should work.

I didn't use the match, but I think the bigger issue is mismatched Prod Codes....

    Re: issues with vlookup

Result are correct because there's no match in the lookup value as GeorgiaJoe highlighted, here's variation of the formula.
    Formula: copy to clipboard

p/s: index+match generally more efficient and robust, but for your case vlookup shall be fine

On Details, you are using columns A..C not A & B:
