I created a macro in excel 2003 and attached it to a button. However when I load the spreadsheet into excel 2013 and left click on the button, the macro doesn't run. Also I notice that when I load the spreadsheet into excel 2013, the initial prompt on the screen to 'enable macros' doesn't appear.
Have you checked the Macro Settings in the Trust Center?

Is it saved as .xls or .xlsm? Maybe try saving as a 2013 .xlsm file?
Also, where is the button - on the Toolbar or Worksheet? Can you upload the file?
