[Solved] How do I choose the best xlFileFormat for SaveAs

I have a situation where I am creating a new workbook, and assigning a name from an algorithm. When I come to save it, I know exactly the name I want, and that it will be (eventually) an ".xlsm" file.

I've tried saving it with the extension already added in (foobar.xlsm), but I get an error saying that I can't store macros in a plain vanilla spreadsheet (sounds like Excel wants to call the file foobar.xlsm.xlsx).

OK - I have to pick a FileFormat value - but there are so many of them, and the documentation is (surprise, surprise) somewhat less than extensive.

Can anybody give me a clue as to which xlFileFormat value I should supply so that my file ends up as foobar.xlsm?

    Thanks, in advance!

    Tony

try recording your saving as actions . Then look at the macro.

OK, I was trying to avoid that, and my guess is that at least one other person may have asked the same question.

However, FWIW here is the result of a very limited test:

I've solved my problem - but wouldn't it have been nice if M$ had provided a complete table?

    Oh well!

If there's something else that I need to do other than what I have already done, it would be nice to receive some constructive advice on how to do it.
It looks [Solved] to me, and this status was applied within 30 seconds of my post announcing a solution.

Is there something else that needs to happen?

Well, rcm asked me to flag it as solved, and a I said, I did this within 30 seconds of the post where I announced that it was solved. If there is something other than putting [Solved] in front of the description of the post, then I need to know what it is. If not, then the issue is well and truly closed!

    Thanks for the offer,

    Tony

So I guess what I was looking for was something like this:

Here's how to mark your problem as solved.

Tony, man, sometimes you just gotta do for yourself when the resources are near at hand. Floundering is a learning exercise; being spoon-fed is not.
