Adding multiple values in one column to equal to one number in another column.

    Hey,

I am trying to add multiple values in one column to equal to 1 value in the other column.

I am doing a bank reconciliation, and I have found one macro template here that is quite helpful in finding the matches.

In the books column there is 295, and in the bank column there is 200 and a 95= 295.

Is there a way that I can highlight the 2 figures that equal 295, just anything so I know that those totals equal 295?

Here is an example of the excel sheet.

    Thanks!

    Hello Accountant0607,

I had a quick look at the spreadsheet you attached but in truth it didn't help all that much.

Caveat... in an earlier incarnation I was an accountant as well so my questions may be biased towards my fading memories of counting "beans" for a living

I think the problem statement is missing some detail. Are you trying to match deposits that show up as one statement item with multiple receipts that were batched and banked??

I am struggling to see how you could be attempting to "marry cheques to get a list of outstanding cheques (sorry that is Ozzie spelling), I have never seen a bank clear part of a cheque and then the balance in one or more transactions.

for deposits, what is the matching criteria, is it based on date, do you assume that all cheques entered into the cashbooks will be banked on the same day, is there a possibility of more than one deposit per day etc.

Sorry to be a bit "unhelpful" but based on your example spreadsheet I couldn't dream up a solution without answers to a few of these questions (or maybe that is the accountant in me restricting my creativity )

    Hello Jmac,

For some reason, multiple transactions randomly, can add to one deposit on the book. This is quite frustrating, and is eating up my time.

So, that is the reason why I need to see what matches up, then what is left, I have to add up till I get a total that is matching one of my book totals.

Does that make Sense? The date doesn't matter much either.
