Select method of Range class failed

The below code keeps producing the above error message either the line above Range("A1").Select or below it. For the life of me I cannot work out why this is happeneing.

Can someone please put me out of my misery and tell me what's wrong with these lines of code?

I don't see that Range("A1").select does anything?

Is there any purpose of having it there at all? Maybe remove it?
