I've built an analysis tool that requires Solver. It works but it's hard to reconfigure. (This is for Excel 2013).
The problems have to do with Solver constraints. In this case there are quite a few of them (20 to 30).
- There doesn't seem to be any rhyme, reason or control over the order in which they are displayed. How might one get them in some order?
(For example, I have constraints like this:
$A$3<=20
$A$3>=0
$A$3 integer
$B$3<=20
$B$3>=0
$B$3 integer
and they show up randomly on the list more like this - which makes it hard to check for consistency, errors, etc.
$B$3 integer
$A$3<=20
$B$3>=0
$A$3 integer
$A$3>=0
$B$3<=20
And, I believe the order doesn't even stay the same from time to time.
- If one tries to add a constraint cell to the list, a right or left arrow ADDS the current cell to the list wherever the cursor lies in the list. So, it could be in the middle of a cell reference and one would go from $A3 to $A$B43. How to enter new cell references without strange behavior like this?
- I can read the contents of the saved model but don't know any tricks yet for listing the constraint cells as text. I'm beginning to believe that best practice would be to list all the constraint cells in one contiguous list so that this latter issue could be addressed.
If you don't know the answers directly, some links to good information would be helpful.
