Eliminate need to retype password for active links to other files

I have set up a monthly system that requires the previous month's data so the files are linked. Each month is a separate file, and each file is password protected with the same password.

When December of 2008 was the first file; this one is not linked so it stands alone. However, Jan 2009 is linked to Dec 2008 so when opening the Jan 2009 file a password must be entered twice. Along the same lines, Feb 2009, when opened prompts the user to enter the password three times.

Am I to understand that by the end of 2009 in order to open Dec 2009, a password will need to be entered 13 times? If so, is there any way of circumventing the need for so many password entries without getting rid of the security of having a password locked file?

NOTE: I have posted this question in the general questions file, but with no concrete result. Here's the link for that post: http://www.excelforum.com/excel-gene...ml#post2040011

    Thanks in advance.

    Roy,

Thank you for your answer! I'm a novice user so please excuse my lack of knowledge, but could you clarify what Dim FileToOpen is and how to access it, please?

FileToOpen is a variable to store the path & file name, as is the FilePassword which stores the password. I've marked what to change

Please Login or Register to view this content.
    Copy the code above
Select the workbook in which you want to store the code
Hold the Alt key, and press the F11 key, to open the Visual Basic Editor
    Choose Insert | Module
Where the cursor is flashing, choose Edit | Paste
    To run the code:

Choose Tools | Macro | Macros
Select a macro in the list, and click the Run button

    Roy,

I sat down today to work on this, and while the macro works perfectly, it does not quite fit what I was looking for.

When I open one of these files, ie Jan 2009, I am immediately prompted to enter the Jan 2009 password, and then am prompted to enter in the Dec 2008 password before I have a chance to run the macro.

Is there anyway of automating this?

Thanks in advance; I really appreciate the help.

    -Vasili
