new to Mac and I want to use excel

    Hi

I have a heavily developed excel doc which I want to use on me new Mac book but I'm struggling big time

Can I get excel on Mac?
if not, is there a decent alternative?

google docs seems to be limited on the size per page - i.e. column z seems to be the last

numbers is ridiculously complicated to try and build in web query or web data

whys its so difficult lol - really frustrating

basically I need to be able to extract web data into an excel type doc which I can then add my formulas etc into

    any ideas?

You can purchase Microsoft Office (or Excel alone) for Mac.

    See here:

That being said, I doubt that it will be exactly the same as Excel for windows.

You can't expect an Apple product to come with a competitor's (Microsoft) software.

At the same time, you can't expect Microsoft to give away their software to a competitor's (Apple) product for free.

I, personally, do not know the first thing about Apple Numbers.

Re: new to Mac and I want to use excel

FWIW, I purchased Microsoft Office for Mac back in 2009. I was a basic user then but it was able to do everything that I needed.

I remember that all of the built-in features that I needed were there but in different locations.

    Thanks for the rep!

Excel for Mac is terrible, it's especially limited if you're doing any sort of vba web stuff. It misses many of the features that are in the windows version, I use a vm on my Mac to run windows and windows excel.

Office 365 allows you to use both Mac and Windows excel on a number of computers

Re: new to Mac and I want to use excel

my need is to have software which allows web data source or web query - I do not necessary need to use VBA as I can develop formula to get the same results

but to scale up and make things automatic I need the data source

does anyone know if excel on Mac would allow this as I don't fancy paying to find out I cant, otherwise I'd be reluctantly happy to pay lol - yes I understand Microsoft wouldn't allow this to be free on Apple

or - does anyone know how to web source on apple numbers, I think applescript might have similar capabilities but it all looks so complicated to an untrained eye
