Can't open Mac Excel 2004 wbook with Mac Excel 2011

I am about to upgrade my O/S from 10.6.8 to 10.11 which makes my ancient Mac office 2004 incompatible so I am planning to buy Office 10.11. In the interim I have been switching back and forth between my 2004 excel and 2011 versions. My problem is that spread sheets created in 2004 will not open in 2011 and vice versa, the 2011 dox won't open in 2004. Is there a solution to this problem?

I am not a Mac user and so cannot answer your specific question.

But you used a poor title and that could be the reason you have had no responses
- your current title is not the "real" problem
- neither does it direct Mac users to look at the thread

The problem to be solved is that you cannot convert from 2004 to 2011 etc

I suggest you give this thread a new title "Can't open Mac Excel 2004 wbook with Mac Excel 2011"
