    Problem with Mac Numbers formula

    Screen Shot 2019-02-20 at 1.13.12 PM.png

My problem is that if there is a duplicate entry in the ('Office Task BREAKDOWN - multi projects'::'Area/Phase') column, the INDEX cell will not produce a number. It seems the result of this is that the next entry in the ('Office Task BREAKDOWN - multi projects'::'Area/Phase') will not appear in the column where this formula is shown.

    for example

Column A INDEX Column Column C (The sum total for each exact match row in Col.A)

    happy 1 happy
    dog 2 dog
dog (This row is added to the 'dog' row above)
today 1 This result is not showing up because I am assuming that
    INDEX result is 0) ?

Column C will work correctly if Column A is filled in the following manner.

Column A INDEX Column Column C

    happy 1 happy
    dog 2 dog
    today 3 today
    dog
    dog
    today

The Column C results will have the totals correct for all the row results in Column A

This the formula in the INDEX Column

I would upload the Numbers file, but I am not sure how. Please ask questions if needed. I know this is probably very confusing.

    Thank you

    Tim

When I attempt to look at the attachment in post #2 I get the message "Invalid Attachment specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator".
It would seem to me that it would be better to attach the workbook from which the screen shots were made anyway.
To attach a sample workbook (not a picture or pasted copy) click on the GO ADVANCED button below the Quick Reply window and then scroll down to Manage Attachments to open the upload window.
