    Memory Full error

A friend is using a Lotus 123 macro-driven file (for the past 30 years) & gets a "memory full" error when using File Open Combine with a .DBF file. It has always worked OK previously & the .DBF file can be opened in Excel without any problem. There is obviously no support for Lotus today & I'm hoping someone might be able to suggest a possible solution. He has uninstalled Lotus & re-installed the program & no memory size problem with the .DBF file as it opens perfectly in Excel.
    Thanks in advance

    Re: Memory Full error

    Hi Aland,

I'd be looking for what he has done since the last time it did work. Has he updated his OS to a newer version. Is he now running other programs that are using memory? I'd run the task manager to see what else is running in memory and trim that back to a minimum and try again.

When you say "Combine", is that within Lotus only or is he combining it in Excel? What happens if he uses Access to combine?
One test is worth a thousand opinions.

    Re: Memory Full error

Thanks for your reply - he uses the Lotus command "File Open Combine" to combine a .DBF file into Lotus. I used Excel to open the DBF file only to confirm there was no problem with the DBF file. So, no problem opening the DBF file in Excel but a problem in Lotus. The file runs perfectly at his other branches so the problem is limited to 1 branch only?

    Re: Memory Full error

I guess that lower memory was not enough to use ( this may occure from many reason : bigger of .DBF file, resize of smartdrive cache,
A80 or Himem.sys memory driver error - so the machine cannot use expanded memory ). Did your friend use DOS ?

Please show your friend config.sys if possible.

Note : if memory low is come from bigger of .DBF this might not help.

    Regards.
