Google Sheets - ISNUMBER() - Shows FALSE for cell formatted as number

    Hello!

    Issue:
    • Cell C1 fetches a number from a web page via IMPORTXML.
    • Cell B1 refers to it (=C1).
    • B1 and C1 are formatted as number and also display numbers.

However, ISNUMBER for both cells is FALSE and the shown decimals in B1 and C1 cannot be changed. Even if I copy the format of a cell D1, where ISNUMBER returns TRUE, to B1 and C1, it remains FALSE there.

What could be the reason if a cell is formatted as a number, a number is visible there (via formula) and yet ISNUMBER returns FALSE?

Thanks in advance for your help!

This happens with text "looking like a number".
Formatting is just a way it shows things to the world. As well in GS as XL text is left aligned in cells, real numbers right-aligned ( without manual alignment)
Select your "number" - Data - Text to columns ( or equivalent) - OK The number should now be right-aligned
    There are other techniques available

    Thank you!

I'm not quite sure if I got you right.
"Data - Text to columns" results in a second column and for example "1,62" in Cell C1 is then splitted in "1" in Cell C1 and "62" in Cell D1.

Try changing the formula in B1 to =C1+0
