    Stock Data Type

    hi,

In excel there is a Data type for Stocks. Is there anything like that in Google Docs? I like the way excel changes a ticker to the Stock Exchange and also you can click on it and it give real time data information. However, I'm using Google Sheets and do not see anywhere how to change Data type to Stocks. Pic below is just a reference as to what is in excel. Thank you.

    Try using the GOOGLEFINANCE function:

    Hi Jan,

I tried that, but it's not quite the same. The attached pic is from Excel. If you click on the little house next to the name it brings up a pop-up and displays all the current data on that ticker symbol. That is what I'm looking for, if possible. Attachment 879653

    Re: Stock Data Type

It's possible to use a "smart chip" that creates a link to the ticker listed at the Google Finance website, but it won't just popup information in Google Sheets.

Type an @ symbol, then type in the stock ticker.

    for example @BATS:ARKG

NOTE: The stock ticker MUST be listed on the Google Finance website and you can't use one from your own imagination or from some other financial website unless the ticker is identical to the one used at the Google Finance website.
