Auto filter on a protected sheet

    Hi all,
I am running excel for mac 2010 with mountain lion
I have a protected worksheet and need to be able to use auto filter on this sheet with out manually unprotecting the sheet, I have tried checking the allow auto filter box when protecting the sheet, but this does not work at all.
I seem to have exhausted all searches on the web, no vba code I have come across works so far.

I also need to be able to move the auto filter to different rows so that only data below gets filtered

any ideas will be gratefully received, I am sure there is a genius out there that can solve this!!!!
    thank you for reading,

    Rob

Re: pulling my hair out auto filter on a protected sheet

in a protected sheet you can only use an existing autofilter-you cannot add or remove new filters. you will have to use code that unprotects the sheet, changes whatever filter you want and the reprotects the sheet

if at first you don't succeed try doing it the way your wife told you to
