This may be a bit off topic, but I would really like to replace a program on my PC with a similar one for my Mac, and I would like to try and write it myself.
This is scheduling software, which has a lot of really handy nuances. For example, it brings up a calendar; you select the day for which you are scheduling, and it looks to see which workers are going to be there that day, and populates the schedule with just those folks. It also 'knows' if a person comes in or leaves on a non-scheduled time and adjusts for that by not allowing you to schedule the person before he comes in, for example.
In addition, the program 'knows' which positions are critical, and alerts you when you don't fill those positions. The shift is scheduled in 30 minute increments, and when a position overlaps some number of 30 minute increments, it fills in the cells for all of the increments.
Another neat tool is the existing program allows me to print the overall schedule, plus individual schedules for each worker.
So, my question is: Can you recommend a book I might buy that could help me program something like this?
Your thoughts are most welcome.
