I'm new to this site but not to Excel. I've been kicking around with it (actually kicking it quite hard) for about the last 10 years. More recently, I'm also gotten into MS-Access.
I'm sort of working on my 4th career having been an Air Force Pilot, Communications Officer with the National Guard, software developer (primarily C), Database Manager, in various management positions in software development (mostly in Quality Assurance) and now a Business Analyst (at least that's what the job title says). It's a combination of specification writing / QA / Auditing / Data Analysis and report automation.
I seem to be one of the few people who use MS-Query a lot. I use it mostly to read Oracle databases. I develop my queries in TOAD or WinSQL and copy the SQL to MS-Query. The queries are too complex usually to be presented graphically, so I can't pass parameters to them, but I have a relatively simple system to rewrite the code as the spreadsheet is run, so not only can I change parameters, I can change the code itself.
Likewise, I have a utility that bridges the gap between the windows task manager and reporting spreadsheets so I can run my reports overnight and have them ready in the morning. It's a simple "fill in the blanks / copy / paste" type system.
If anyone is interested in these topics, give a shout.
Off-grid, I like reading (mostly science fiction / science fact), writing, working out (every now and then my body has to remind my brain that I am not 25 years old anymore), and getting down on the floor and acting like a kid with my grandchildren.
