Just joined , Hope to find out all about Excel, My version is out of date I think (excel 2000) so I was wondering if it would be better to update to a newer version and are they any better than I've got.?

Yes, Excel 2000 is quite old with the newest version at Excel 2010. There have been two version (2003 and 2007) inbetween yours and what is available now.
